ABOUT UNRAIJI TEMPLE

The Clouds Gather,
and Thunder Begins.

雲雷寺

The Story & Meaning of Unraiji Temple

The name of Unraiji Temple comes from a passage in the Lotus Sutra, in the chapter known as “The Parable of the Medicinal Herbs.”
The clouds gather, thunder begins, and rain falls to nourish all things. When the clouds part, brilliant light begins to shine through.
This natural cycle reflects a journey of nourishment, renewal, and hope. It's a reminder that after every moment of stillness or change, light returns.

The name Unraiji Temple carries this wish within it.

With a history of more than 400 years, Unraiji Temple has stood in Osaka since the Tenshō period (1573–1591). The temple was later relocated to its present site in Nakadera, Osaka, in 1598.

Today, this enduring spirit of nourishment, renewal, and light continues to inspire the experience at WA-THAI.
